01/21/07\n\na new publication about the effects of cognitive training with X-Cog in Clinical Schizophrenia & Related Psychoses is out now.\n\nIn the next days, I'll upload the first beta - version of X-CogLTP, another cognitive trainig - software mainly designed for memory training that can be played online, so check it out :-).
Welcome!
What you have to do to make X-Cog run on your computer:\n* download [[xcesetup.exe|xcesetup.exe]]\n* run it on your computer\n* try it out\n* if you like it, send me your activation key (file->license x-cog) and pay the license fee (currently 150 US $).\n* enter the license key you get from me and have fun :-)\n\nAt the moment, some tasks are displayed in wrong colors on some devices under Win7 and higher. I'm working on it and have reprogrammed 5 tasks by now in a windowed mode that run beautifully on Win7 and Win 8. I'll upload the new files for the tasks soon.\nIf you work with WinXP everything should run without any problems.\n\nUnfortunately, I don't have an English manual at the moment. But meanwhile, you may the following two files helpful:\n* [[manual25.pdf|manual25.pdf]] - the manual of the German version.\n* [[xcogany.pdf|xcogany.pdf]] is the English version of an X-Cog version that runs on an USB-Stick without installation. It is restricted to four players, while the version you have downloaded supports an unlimited number of players and many other features.\n\nAnyway, it's quite simple to work with X-Cog - just refer to the QuickStart - Section :-)
[img[X-Cog's main window| ./img/fruc.jpg]]\nTo create pink fruit juice, falling comets have to be sorted in dishes. Comets of the same color have to be stacked directly one upon the other to produce juice. Use the arrow-keys to move the comets left or right while they are falling. If more than three comets of different colors are stacked, the lowest comet is destroyed. This should be avoided. Grey comets (level "Koenner" or higher) can’t be moved and have to be destroyed while they fall by pressing the space bar.\n----\n@@Have Fun!@@\n\n

The missing tile has to be completed following the implicit logical rules for color, shape and size.\nIn the example above, a green (first two of each row are of same color or: three different colors in each column), middle-sized (three different colors in each row/column) circle (three different shapes in each row/column) is correct. \n\nJust click on the tile above you think that fits. At the moment, I have two English texts for you:\n* a small article ([[csrppub.pdf|csrppub.pdf]]) describing data gathered for 40 schizophrenia patients and \n* a poster ([[rsa08.pdf|rsa08.pdf]]) that additionally includes data from another study as well as long-tern data\n\naaand: One more poster ([[xcogcoge.pdf|xcogcoge.pdf]]) that I've designed for more commercial purposes...\n\nHave fun with it ;-)
#Download X-Cog form the DownLoad Section. Unpack the file and run "setup.exe". After successful installation, an X-Cog icon should appear on your desktop (if you can't find the icon: the executable file is mbjunior.exe)\n#run X-Cog. Some German images appear that inform you, that this is a demo version and no results can be stored. 5 tasks, however, can be performed (click on the links to get a short description of each task):\n**MagicCarpet\n**RainMaker\n**LisTener\n**FruitPress\n**YolkHunt\n#Move the vertical slider on the left to the desired level of difficulty. Then click on the button of the task to start it. Press ~ESC to stop. If the task is completed, a German message is displayed on the bottom of the screen. Press ESC to return to X-Cog's main window.\nIf you are skilled enough to change to a higher level of difficulty, a crown appears beside the task's button. The number of jewels in the crown refers to the skill level you have successfully completed.\n----\n@@Have Fun!@@
[img[X-Cog's main window| ./img/rege.jpg]]\nTo pour a flower field, a comet-fork has to be stabbed into passing comets by pressing the space bar. But only distinct comets with TWO RED DOTS contain water. If you hit the targets correctly, water is poured over the flower fields and flowers begin to grow. !Welcome to X-Cog's English website. \n[img[X-Cog's main window| ./img/surf.jpg ]]\n\nWelcome! The English version of X-Cog is finished :-). Check it out in the DownLoad section.\nWhat you have to do to make the software run on your computer is: Download and run xcesetup.exe and try out the demo (restricted features). [img[Trapp| ./img/trappi.jpg]]\nHi. I'm working as a clinical Psychologist in Bamberg, Germany. \nMy main interests are:\n*Depression\n*Schizophrenia\n*Anxiety disorders\n*AD(H)D\n*chronic pain and\n*Dementia\n\nI'm doing some research on cognitive dysfunctions in psychiatric patients and so I've developed this software to supplement common cognitive training software. Meanwhile, X-Cog has become quite detailed, so I've decided to provide it to other collegues for a small fee.\nInbetween, my software is used by some hundreds of physicians, psychologists and occupational therapists in german speaking countries.
I sought to develop a training software that:\n*Uses reinforcing feedback\n*provides a relaxed and friendly training atmosphere with motivating tasks \n*enables errorless learning because of gradually increasing levels of difficulty.\nFour major cognitive domains should be covered:\n*attention\n*problem solving\n*memory and \n*visual-motor skills\n[img[animals| ./img/animals.gif ]]\nI ended up with a training battery realizing the following key features:\n*game like character: The player controls little creatures (~BOBs) and different animals (some of them are showed above) that have to face several adventures. \n*All tasks are programmed using Microsoft’s ~Direct-X® – Technology to provide fluent animations and stereo sound.\n*5 levels of difficulty (“Beginners” to “Superprofessional”) for each task: This allows gradual increase of difficulty in the sense of “errorless learning”.\n\n
[img[X-Cog's main window| ./img/dott.jpg]]\nFor the first 30 seconds you see chickens in different colors laying their eggs behind different bushes. The a BOB walks into the place and the chickens hurry away. Now you have to guide him, to collect the eggs. Click on one egg on the bottom of the screen, then click on the bush, where you expect an egg of the color chosen. If your guess is correct the BOB gladly hurries away with the egg. If not, he sighs and you may try another bush. \n----\n@@Have fun!@@
